Walking with parents of children with developmental trauma / RAD

Sixteen years in,
still standing.

Hello, I’m Tana — welcome! I’m glad you’re here. I’m not writing to you as an expert looking in —
I’m writing as a mother who has lived this, and who would like to walk it with you.

About me

I have four children I love forever. Two are adopted, and I would not change that decision for anything. Every child I’ve had the privilege of parenting — biological and adopted — was divinely placed in our home. Both of my adopted children live with severe RAD, caused by the developmental trauma they endured before they came home to us. It reshaped our family completely. It affected everyone, and it only got harder as they grew older and moved through puberty. My husband and I have been heartbroken navigating ER psych evaluation after ER psych evaluation, inpatient behavioral health stays, the complete regression of one of our daughters to an infant-like state at age twelve, challenges at school, behaviors at home that went far beyond “difficult,” 911 calls for our family’s safety, juvenile detention, and even a potential Dependency & Neglect charge from our county DHS.

I know how hopeless this can feel. I know what it’s like to be judged by people who have never parented a child with DTD/RAD. I know what it feels like to watch your neighbors see the police at your home — again. I know how lonely this road can be.

And I want to walk it with you.

A little more about me

My husband and I have been married almost twenty-five years. We have four children — two biological sons, born in 2003 and 2006, and two adopted daughters, born in 2006 and 2007.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I worked in quality assurance for a while, then spent several years working for our church in scheduling, graphic design, and website management.

I had the opportunity to stay home and homeschool my kids through most of their childhood, though my girls finished high school through online programs. I wouldn’t trade the chance to teach my children to read — we read aloud almost every day, and I found wonderful books I never would have come across otherwise. Homeschooling while parenting children with RAD brought its own challenges, though, and it isn’t the right fit for every family. No worries at all if it isn’t right for yours.

When it went from hard to almost impossible

When our girls hit puberty, things got harder still. There were stretches when I wasn’t getting through one day at a time — I was getting through one minute at a time. It’s a kind of parenting only someone who has raised a child with RAD could truly understand.

Over the last several years, I’ve done the work I needed to heal — from the trauma, the broken dreams, and the expectations that never played out the way I imagined. Through more than sixteen years of parenting our girls, I’ve learned so much, and I would love to come alongside you as you navigate the complicated, exhausting, sacred work of parenting a child with DTD/RAD.

How I walk it with you

Coaching, not therapy. Lived experience, practical strategy, and a person
who does not flinch at anything you tell her.

The 6-Week DTD/RAD class

  • A live, virtual class taught with a licensed therapist who specializes in treating children with RAD.
  • Friday evenings beginning October 16
  • Time with other parents who are living the same thing.

Personalized Coaching

  • Personalized coaching from someone who has parented  children with Developmental Trauma/RAD for sixteen years.
  • You leave every call with support and a next step, not with judgment.

A note on scope. I’m a parent coach, not a licensed therapist. I don’t diagnose, treat or prescribe. What I offer is lived experience, practical strategy, and steady company on a road most people cannot see into.

Let's start with a
conversation.

Thirty minutes, no cost, no pitch. Tell me what’s happening at
home and I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
