Walking with parents of children with developmental trauma / RAD
Sixteen years in,
still standing.
I’m writing as a mother who has lived this, and who would like to walk it with you.
About me
I know how hopeless this can feel. I know what it’s like to be judged by people who have never parented a child with DTD/RAD. I know what it feels like to watch your neighbors see the police at your home — again. I know how lonely this road can be.
And I want to walk it with you.
A little more about me
My husband and I have been married almost twenty-five years. We have four children — two biological sons, born in 2003 and 2006, and two adopted daughters, born in 2006 and 2007.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Human Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I worked in quality assurance for a while, then spent several years working for our church in scheduling, graphic design, and website management.
I had the opportunity to stay home and homeschool my kids through most of their childhood, though my girls finished high school through online programs. I wouldn’t trade the chance to teach my children to read — we read aloud almost every day, and I found wonderful books I never would have come across otherwise. Homeschooling while parenting children with RAD brought its own challenges, though, and it isn’t the right fit for every family. No worries at all if it isn’t right for yours.
When it went from hard to almost impossible
When our girls hit puberty, things got harder still. There were stretches when I wasn’t getting through one day at a time — I was getting through one minute at a time. It’s a kind of parenting only someone who has raised a child with RAD could truly understand.
Over the last several years, I’ve done the work I needed to heal — from the trauma, the broken dreams, and the expectations that never played out the way I imagined. Through more than sixteen years of parenting our girls, I’ve learned so much, and I would love to come alongside you as you navigate the complicated, exhausting, sacred work of parenting a child with DTD/RAD.

A note on scope. I’m a parent coach, not a licensed therapist. I don’t diagnose, treat or prescribe. What I offer is lived experience, practical strategy, and steady company on a road most people cannot see into.
